Review: The Amazon is a border region which includes territories in nine countries, is an area of \u200b\u200bimmense natural and cultural richness, great potential development and a fundamental geo-strategic importance in the international arena, but nevertheless suffers from several problems caused by profuse and state abandonment of its territories and populations which makes the presence of ATC Clandestine Transnational Actors, and the proliferation of criminal markets circuits such as trafficking in drugs, arms, people and biodiversity.
In a context of interdependence, these factors are not confined to traditional threats to national security and include other risks involving the welfare and conservation of people, cultures and ecosystems, with consequences that go beyond public safety and affect the sustainable development of the region and the universality of global human security. This publication contains various studies undertaken by members of the Research Group on Security and Defense, National University of Colombia, in due analyzes the nature of these new threats to security in the Amazon. The text is the result of the research project Insecurity in the Region Amazon: Context, Challenges and Perspectives, which had financial support from the Research Directorate Bogotá DIB, National University of Colombia.
